Everyone has had teachers who have told them to eat a good
breakfast the morning of an exam. But why?
Nutritious meals play an important role in test taking. Research shows
that those who eat a balanced breakfast are able to work more quickly and have
fewer errors while performing a math test.
Attending class is a huge part of receiving a good grade. A
person must be present in order to learn the content of the course. Getting
sick would prevent a person from attending class, thus increasing the chances
of missing something important. Having a healthy diet can decrease the chances
of getting sick. Eating foods packed with protein, vitamins and minerals can eliminate
sick days.
Many students decide to skip breakfast. Most would rather
have an extra fifteen minutes of sleep than have to prepare a breakfast or walk
to a dining hall. However, eating a healthy breakfast can keep you both
energized and alert. Eating breakfast will also reduce those hunger
distractions everyone is all too familiar with.
Eating healthy is incredibly important for college students,
where grades matter most and exams come every couple of weeks. If eating
healthy can have such a positive affect on school performance, why do so many
college students decide not to eat healthy. In fact most college students don’t
even eat a single serving of fruits and vegetables a day. The recommended
amount is 5 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables a day. Many college
students don’t even eat this in a week.
How many servings of fruits and vegetables do students at The University of Michigan eat in a typical day? Do students and the University of Michigan usually eat breakfast?
